Interview Advice

It is a true fact that people make their mind up about someone in the first few seconds of meeting with them. So making a good first impression is imperative!

When recruiting, an employer will be interested in your personality and presentation as well as your qualifications and experience.

We have put together a few helpful tips below to help overcome any interview nerves and instill confidence for a productive meeting.

  • Double check the date, time and location of the interview and be familiar with the name and title of your interviewer.
  • Prepare your interview outfit in advance. Ensure your appearance is smart and comfortable
  • Familiarise yourself with the route and journey and leave enough time to cover if you have any delays etc.
  • Be puntual for your meeting. be courteous to the receptionist and other staff you may meet prior to your interview. Their opinion could be sought.

Research as much information as possible about your prospective employer in advance. Checking websites are usually a good option as they generally tend to be packed with information.

If there is no website you can still use online search engines just by entering the company name.

  • Greet your interviewer standing with a strong, firm handshake and a smile! Good body language is vital. Sit up straight, speak clearly and confidently.
  • A standard interview will generally start with an introduction chat, moving on to questions specific to your application and experience. General information about the company and role may follow, finishing with an oppourtunity for you to ask questions.
  • Be familiar with your CV and be prepared to answer questions from it
  • Listen to what is being asked. Think about your answers to more difficult questions do not give irrelavant detail. Give positive examples and avoid one word answers however be careful not to give your life story!
  • Show your enthusiam for the role, even if you have some reservations. These can be discussed at a later stage once you've convinced the interviewer that you're the best candidate for the job.
